Black Range Land Management Group

2024 AGM round up

13 November 2024
A big thank you to all those who attended the Black Range Land Management Group AGM (Annual General Meeting) on the 9th November 2024. We had a great turnout, with 12 members, a few special guests from the Mt Korong EcoWatch and Trust For Nature, and we were even joined by a curious couple from Gippsland!

We met at Bunjil's Shelter Reserve, on the land of the Djab wurrung & Djardwajali people, where we started with an introduction circle, and read aloud the story of Bunjil. It was a beautiful introduction to the area, and a great start to the activities. Then as a group, we took a walk through the reserve (keeping an eye out for snakes!), stopping to view and discuss the rock painting, as well as many wild flowers and trees. We spotted a few Eastern Grey Kangaroos enjoying their brunch.

Once back at the carpark area, we sat in a circle and had a great conversation with Kate Lee and Freya Mathew from Mt Korong EcoWatch. Kate and Freya explained a little bit of the history of their group, and the great work that they are doing in their lovely part of Victoria. It was inspiring to hear about how other groups work, how that could be applied to the Black Range, and even how we might work together in the future in a coalition of granite outcrops!

We were also lucky enough to be joined by Fiona Copley from Trust for Nature, who gave us an introduction to what Trust for Nature does, and an update on land tax exemption benefits.

By this time we were super hungry and enjoyed a communal lunch. One thing is clear … our wonderful BRLMG members are amazing cooks!

The homemade communal lunch was amazing!

Finally it was down to the formal part of the day with the official AGM. Fiona spilled all positions, and the nominations began, with the following results:

We would like to thank the outgoing secretary Michelle Wood, and the outgoing Project Platypus Board Representative Fernanda Del Lama Soares for their excellent contribution in those volunteer roles over the past year.

You can see all decisions in the AGM meeting minutes.

New and ongoing projects

The BRLMG has a range of both funded and unfunded projects currently underway, with many fantastic ideas for initiatives and projects being raised at the AGM (and also via the membership questionnaire).

You can find more information about these projects by downloading this PDF. If you are a member and are interested in leading or contributing to the implementation of any of the projects please send us an email to [email protected] by 13 December 2024.
